Pool Shapes and Styles Guide

Pool shape is a functional decision disguised as an aesthetic one: the shape that looks best in a rendering is not always the one that swims best for how the family actually uses it. Because each Memorial Village is its own municipality, pool permits are pulled through that specific village rather than one shared county office, and that permitting path is confirmed as part of design planning.

Geometric Shapes

Rectangles and geometric L-shapes maximize usable swim lane length for lap swimming or exercise and tend to read as more formal against a symmetrical home facade. They are also typically the most efficient to build, since straight bond-beam runs and consistent depth transitions are less labor-intensive than a freeform shell.

Freeform and Lagoon Shapes

Freeform and lagoon-style shapes follow the yard's natural contours rather than a straight-edge layout, which suits informal, landscape-heavy backyards and pairs well with tanning ledges, rock features, or a naturalistic planting scheme. Freeform shapes cost somewhat more to build per square foot than geometric shapes because of the additional shaping labor, but only gunite construction supports true freeform shaping; fiberglass freeform options are limited to whatever curves exist in the manufacturer's mold.
