Solar Pool Heating Explained
Solar pool heating is simple in concept, circulate pool water through sun-exposed panels before it returns to the pool, but the real question is how much heat gain it actually delivers on a given roof or rack. Because each Memorial Village is its own municipality, pool permits are pulled through that specific village rather than one shared county office, and that permitting path is confirmed as part of design planning.

How It Works and What It Needs
A solar pool-heating system routes water through unglazed collector panels (typically roof-mounted or rack-mounted) using the existing pump, warming it a few degrees per pass before returning it to the pool; a control valve diverts water through the panels only when panel temperature exceeds pool temperature.
It needs unobstructed sun exposure and enough panel area relative to pool surface area (roughly matching or exceeding the pool's surface square footage is a common rule of thumb) to make a meaningful temperature difference.
Where It Fits
In the Houston area's long, sunny season, solar heating can meaningfully extend comfortable swim months on either end of summer without the ongoing fuel or electricity cost of gas or heat-pump heating, but it will not deliver fast, on-demand heat the way a gas heater does on a cloudy or cool day, which is why some homeowners pair solar with a backup heat source rather than relying on solar alone.
